TSG Hawks News: Nick Margevicius

On January 22, the TSG Hawks announced the signing of 27-year-old American left-hander Nick Margevicius. According to the team, Margevicius is set to arrive in Taiwan at the end of January.

Nick Margevicius began his professional career with the San Diego Padres organisation in 2017 and quickly made his MLB debut two seasons later. From 2019 to 2021, he was active in MLB, pitching for the Padres and Mariners. During those three big league seasons, he appeared in 32 games (22 starts) and posted a 6.12 ERA over 110.1 innings.

Unfortunately, in 2021, he was diagnosed with thoracic outlet syndrome, which eventually led to him being removed from the Mariners’ 40-man roster, and he did not get another opportunity to pitch at the MLB level.

From the 2022 and 2023 seasons, Nick Margevicius spent the majority of his time in Triple-A in the Mariners and Braves system. In 2023, he compiled a 7.13 ERA over 48 innings in Triple-A and a 6.10 ERA across 20.2 innings in Double-A.

According to the information on Baseball Savant, Nick Margevicius throws a 4-seam faster, curveball, slider and changeup. He primarily relied on his curveball and slider as his go-to breaking pitches.

As of today, the TSG Hawks have Shōtarō Kasahara, Kento Onodera and Nick Margevicius as their foreign players for the 2024 CPBL season. There are rumours indicating that the Hawks are nearing a deal with Steven Moya as their foreign hitter, but so far, the team have not publicly announced the signing yet.
