Fubon Guardians News: Jake Dahlberg

On March 22, the Fubon Guardians announced the signing of Jake Dahlberg as their fifth foreign player for the 2024 CPBL season. According to the team, the 30-year-old American left-hander has arrived in Taiwan today.

Jake Dahlberg joined the Rakuten Monkeys in June last year as a mid-season signing. As a member of the Monkeys, he logged 73.1 innings over 16 games with a 3.31 ERA and 1.43 WHIP.

During the first round of the 2023 postseason, Jake Dahlberg appeared twice as a reliever in Game 1 and 2 of the Playoff Series. He pitched three scoreless innings and struck out three batters while facing the Uni-Lions.

In the Taiwan Series, Jake Dahlberg served as a reliever in Game 1, Game 2, and Game 3, where he registered four scoreless innings. However, in Game 7, as a starter, he surrounded five runs in just 0.2 innings.

At the end of the season, the Monkeys did express some interest in bringing back Jake Dahlberg for the 2024 season but ultimately decided not to do so.

As of today, the Fubon Guardians have Enderson Franco, Nivaldo Rodríguez, Brandon Brennan and Keyvius Sampson as their foreign players for the 2024 CPBL season.

  1. Signing Dalberg late means it will be easy to assign him to the minor league squad while Guardians see how the first four perform. Do you think he was signed to a split contract that pays him one salary for minors and a higher salary for majors?
