Chiang Shao-Ching Sets CPBL Contract Record

On August 8, the Fubon Guardians held a signing press conference for their 2021 first-round draft pick 江少慶 (Chiang Shao-Ching) at Xinzhuang stadium.

According to the Guardians GM, they signed Chiang Shao-Ching to a 4.5-year deal worth 2.04 million USD. The total amount makes it the largest contract in CPBL history.

Doing a little quick conversion, it is roughly 453,200 USD in annual salary for the 27-year-old right-hander.

“I am satisfied with this contract,” said Chiang Shao-Ching. “The next thing to do is to prepare for the second-half season and help the Guardians to win a championship.”

“He is still at the peak of his career, and we have full confidence in him,” said Christ Tsai, the Guardians general manager.

Prior to entering the CPBL draft, the 27-year-old hard-throwing right-hander spent 2011 to 2020 in the MLB system. He reached Triple-A in the minor leagues.

Note: For ease of calculation, we used the exchange rate of 30 NTD to 1 USD.
