CTBC Brothers News: Kirk McCarty

On January 17, the CTBC Brothers announced the signing of 28-year-old American left-hander Kirk McCarty. According to the team, McCarty is set to join the spring training at the end of January.

Kirk McCarty began his professional career with the Cleveland Guardians organisation in 2017. He quickly climbed up the system and made his MLB debut in 2022, where he pitched 37.2 innings with a 4.54 ERA and 1.32 WHIP. He was eventually let go by the Guardians at the end of the season.

In 2023, after leaving the MLB system, Kirk McCarty wound up pitching in the KBO for the SSG Landers. In over 24 starts, he posted a solid 3.39 ERA and 1.30 WHIP over 130 innings. At the end of the 2023 season, the SSG Landers decided not to re-sign him for the 2024 season.

TSNA has compiled Kirk McCarty’s KBO scouting report. According to the information, McCarty has an average fastball velocity of 145 kph. Apart from the fastball, he also throws a slider, curve and changeup. It is worth noting that the slider is his primary go-to breaking pitch, with the usage almost identical to his fastball.

  • Fastball usage – 39.7%
  • Slider usage – 39.4%
  • Curveball usage – 13.1%
  • Changeup usage – 6.6%

As of today, the CTBC Brothers have Shawn Morimando, José De Paula, Kirk McCarty and Daniel Mengden as their foreign players for the 2024 CPBL season.
