CPBL Foreign Players Updates Volume #287
Uni-Lions News: Randall Delgado
On August 3, Liberty Sports reported that the Uni-Lions are close to signing a new foreign pitcher with MLB experience. Merely 12 hours later, the Lake Country Dockhounds announced on Facebook that the Uni-Lions had purchased the contract of Randall Delgado from the American Association.
Randall Delgado, the 33-year-old Panamanian right-hander, was active in MLB from 2011 to 2018, pitching for the Atlanta Braves and Arizona Diamondbacks. In over 8 MLB seasons, he compiled a 4.10 ERA and 1.32 WHIP over 542.2 innings.
After leaving the MLB system in 2019, Randall Delgado played in the American Association and Atlantic League in the summer and Dominican Winter League during the offseason.
Prior to his signing with the Uni-Lions, Randall Delgado was pitching in the American Association. He has a 3.88 ERA and 1.27 WHIP over 60.1 innings.
It is worth mentioning that earlier this year, Randall Delgado represented Team Panama and face Team Taiwan lineup in the 2023 World Baseball Classic. Delgado went gave up one run on five hits and struck out three over 2.2 innings.
With the signing of Randall Delgado, the Uni-Lions now have Brock Dykxhoorn, Logan Ondrusek and Keyvius Sampson as foreign players on their active roster. According to the Uni-Lions general manager, they are still planning to sign one more foreign pitcher before the August 31 Trade Deadline.
Further Readings
Foreign players comes and goes, therefore we compiled a foreign players tracker to keep track of all the foreign players signing for the 2023 CPBL season.
I had forgotten all about Randall Delgado since he didn’t pitch much anywhere between 2020 and 2022. If his arm is right, he could be a good addition for the Uni-Lions.
