TSG Hawks Trade With Uni-Lions

The TSG Hawks have been quite active in the past few months when it comes to signing free agents and making trades, as they are trying to bolster their first-team roster before making their CPBL major league debut in 2024.

On December 27, the TSG Hawks announced a one-for-one trade with the Uni-Lions. The Hawks traded right-handed pitcher 郭俊麟 (Kuo Chun-Lin), whom they recently acquired from the Guardians via the expansion draft, for left-handed pitcher 江承諺 (Chiang Chen-Yen).

“Chiang Chen-Yen has been on our radar for a long time now,” said the Hawks GM to ETtoday. “Although he hasn’t been given much 1st team opportunity in 2023, he still has the capability to be a starting pitcher.”

“Upon further internal review, we need players who can be both starter and reliever, and we think Kuo Chun-Lin is a perfect fit for us,” the Uni-Lions GM told TSNA.

Chiang Chen-Yen (Uni-Lions to Hawks)

  • 28-year-old left-hander
  • 10 seasons in CPBL (2014-2023)
  • Solid 5th starter
  • Low BB% since 2020
  • Declining K% since 2018
  • Healthy with no major past injuries
  • Spent most of 2023 in minor league

“I want to thank the Uni-Lions for looking after me in the past ten years, and I look forward to contributing as a new member of the TSG Hawks,” said Chiang Chen-Yen via his agent.

Kuo Chun-Lin (Hawks to Uni-Lions)

  • 31-year-old right-hander
  • Former NPB pitcher
  • 3 seasons in CPBL (2021-2023)
  • Tommy John surgery in 2020
  • Throws a plus changeup
  • Risky but a worthy gamble for Uni-Lions

“It was quite a surprise when hearing about the trade, considering that I only wore the Hawks uniform for one day during the team photoshoot in mid-December,” said Kuo Chun-Lin via his social media. “But this is professional baseball, and I will continue to prepare myself and do my best for the team.”
