TSG Hawks News: Shungo Fukunaga

On August 21, the TSG Hawks announced that their foreign pitcher, Shungo Fukunaga (福永春吾), had suffered an elbow injury, leading the team to deregister him as a player.

According to the team, the 29-year-old Japanese RHP will take on a new role as the assistant pitching coach within the Hawks organisation.

The TSG Hawks signed Shungo Fukunaga to a minor league deal back on June 7, and since then, he has compiled a 2.20 ERA and 1.41 WHIP over 16.1 innings in the farm league.

He was sidelined with elbow discomfort since July 18. A further medical examination later revealed that Shungo Fukunaga had torn his elbow ligament.

“Shungo Fukunaga has demonstrated a great attitude and is always willing to share his past experience with younger pitchers. Therefore the team have decided to add him to the coaching staff,” TSG Hawks said via the press release.
