Fubon Guardians News: Elniery García

On August 16, the Fubon Guardians announced the signing of Elniery García from the Mexican League. According to the team, the 28-year-old Dominican left-hander will arrive in Taiwan on August 17.

Elniery García began his professional career with the Philadelphia Phillies organisation in 2012. Out of his seven seasons in the MLB system, he spent two seasons in Double-A and only logged two innings in Triple-A.

After leaving affiliated baseball, from 2019 onward, he wound up playing all over the world from Venezuela, Dominican Republic, Colombia, and Mexico.

Prior to his signing with the Fubon Guardians, Elniery García was active in the Mexican League. He posted a respectable 3.72 ERA and 1.50 WHIP over 67.2 innings for Generales de Durango.

With the August 31 trade deadline approaching, the Fubon Guardians currently have Enderson Franco, Matthew Kent, Stephen Woods Jr, Ryan Weiss and Elniery García as their foreign players. The team must soon make a decision and set up their final four players on their active roster to finish the 2023 CPBL season.

  1. Garcia was pitching pretty well in Mexico, although a bit wild, and he’s only 28. He wasn’t someone who caught my eye as pitching well in Mexico this summer, but his signing likely has to do with the Mexican League players who are available. Teams likely to make the post-season probably aren’t willing to sell their players to CPBL teams, so the latter need to find players from the non-contenders.
