Hong I-Chung Enters 1000-Win Club as Manager
On May 15, the TSG Hawks defeated the Rakuten Monkeys 5-0, marking a historic moment for the team’s manager, 洪一中 (Hong I-Chung). With this victory, Hong I-Chung became the first CPBL manager to enter the 1000 Win Club by recording his 1000th managerial win.

It’s been quite a remarkable journey spanning over 18 seasons and four different teams. During those years, the legendary 63-year-old manager led his teams to 9 Taiwan Series appearances and took home the championship title 7 times.

Reflecting on this milestone, Hong I-Chung shared, “I want to thank my players for securing this win tonight, and it is an honour to enter the 1000-win club. I don’t really have the habit of remembering these win milestones. The focus is never on my personal record, and it is always about winning games for my team. However, seeing everyone cheering for me does make me feel a bit emotional.”
In an interview with ETtoday, Hong I-Chung expressed gratitude to all the team owners and front office executives he had worked with since 2004.
“I never thought I could reach a thousand wins. I often say I am just lucky to have many bosses who can tolerate my personality and are willing to give me time to develop my craft as a manager,” said Hong.
When asked by Liberty Sports whether he thought there would be another thousand-win manager in the CPBL in the future, Hong I-Chung replied, “I really hope so, but the most important thing is that the team need to have more patience with their managers.”
