CPBL Foreign Players Updates Volume #430
TSG Hawks News: David Buchanan
On February 28, during a spring training exhibition game, the TSG Hawks announced the signing of David Buchanan for the 2026 CPBL season. The 36-year-old American right-hander will return for his second season in Taiwan.
According to the Hawks’ press release, the signing complied with the league’s anti-tampering regulations, and they thanked the Guardians for forfeiting David Buchanan’s negotiation rights before the February 28 deadline, also known as the “228 Clause.”
Back in January, the Hawks were under investigation by the CPBL for allegedly breaching anti-tampering rules by approaching David Buchanan while his negotiation rights were still held by the Fubon Guardians. [can read more about this incident here]
David Buchanan joined the Fubon Guardians midseason in 2025 to replace Rio Gomez, who was sidelined with a season-ending elbow injury. During his four months in Taiwan, David Buchanan started 11 games and posted a 1.95 ERA with a 1.27 WHIP over 64.2 innings. However, he was mostly inactive during the final month of the 2025 season due to a foot injury.
With the signing of David Buchanan, the TSG Hawks now have Bradin Hagens, Steven Moya, Eric Stout and Sakurai Shuto as their current group of foreign players.
