CPBL Foreign Players Updates Volume #342
TSG Hawks News: Onodera Kento
On August 9, the TSG Hawks announced the release of Onodera Kento (小野寺賢人).
The 26-year-old Japanese right-handed pitcher suffered a season-ending elbow injury (torn ligament) in June. According to the team, Onodera Kento will undergo PRP treatment and will remain in Taiwan for rehabilitation.
“At this stage, he is likely to be sidelined until the end of October,” the Hawks general manager told Liberty Sports.
Despite the setback, Onodera Kento’s 2024 CPBL season was impressive. In over 9 starts, he posted a 2.31 ERA and 0.97 WHIP over 50.2 innings.
While the Hawks have not openly stated their future plans for Onodera Kento, on August 14, the team’s social media hinted that they may bring him back for the 2025 CPBL season.
As of today, the TSG Hawks currently have Nick Margevicius, Steven Moya, Reymin Guduan, Bradin Hagens, Ljay Newsome and Yoshida Kazumasa as their foreign players.
