Rakuten Monkeys News: Pedro Fernández

On 8 December, the Rakuten Monkeys announced that they had re-signed Pedro Fernández for the 2026 and 2027 CPBL seasons. The 31-year-old Dominican right-hander will be returning for his fourth year in Taiwan.

According to columnist Wang Yi-Hsuan, the deal is reportedly a two-year contract worth 900,000 USD. However, the Merit Times reported a different figure, suggesting a minimum of 1.2 million USD over two years. ETtoday also noted that the KBO’s Hanwha Eagles were targeting Fernández, but the Rakuten Monkeys ultimately secured his return.

Pedro Fernández absolutely dominated the CPBL during the 2025 season, posting a 2.01 ERA and a 0.91 WHIP. Across 170 innings, he recorded 168 strikeouts (26.9 K%) and an impressive 26.9 Whiff%.
