2025 Taiwan Series G1: Monkeys 3 – Brothers 0

On October 18, the Rakuten Monkeys defeated the CTBC Brothers 3-0, taking a crucial Game 1 victory in the 2025 Taiwan Series thanks to a strong performance from their pitching staff.

Winning Game 1 of the Taiwan Series is often a decisive factor. According to historical data, the team that takes Game 1 has an 87.5% chance of going on to win the championship.

Game 1 Recap

The Monkeys wasted no time getting on the board. In the first inning, Lin Li led off with a single, stole second base, and scored on an RBI line-drive single by Liang Chia-Jung.

In the top of the third, the Monkeys rallied again after one out. Lin Tzu-Wei lined a single to right field and immediately stole second base. Veteran Lin Chih-Ping drew a walk, and Liang Chia-Jung followed with another RBI single. Catcher Chang Min-Hsun then added a base hit to left to load the bases. The Monkeys extended their lead after a wild pitch from Nivaldo Rodriguez brought in another run to make it 3-0.

CTBC Brothers’ starter Nivaldo Rodriguez went 5 innings, allowing 3 runs on 8 hits while issuing 3 walks. It is worth noting that Rodriguez has been outstanding against the Monkeys throughout the 2025 season. In 31.1 innings, he posted a 1.44 ERA and 0.96 WHIP, unfortunately, he was unable to repeat the same success in the Taiwan Series.

On the other side, Rakuten Monkeys’ starter Marcelo Martinez delivered a dominant performance, pitching 7 scoreless innings and allowing only 3 scattered hits while keeping the Brothers’ lineup in check all night.

Relievers Chen Kuan-Yu and Chu Cheng-Yang each tossed a scoreless inning to close out the game and secure the win. With their 3-0 shutout victory, the Monkeys now lead the Brothers 1-0 in the best-of-seven Taiwan Series.
