CTBC Financial to Build Taichung Dome
On May 18, the Taichung mayor revealed during a city council meeting that Taiwan Life, a subsidiary of CTBC Financial (owner of the CTBC Brothers in the CPBL), has won the tender for the Taichung Dome. According to the mayor, the project is currently under review, and should everything go smoothly, it should be up and running in 2031.
The dome stadium and its associated commercial developments are expected to cost roughly 2 billion USD. At this stage, the proposed stadium is likely to have a capacity of 45,700 seats. The 330,000 m² of commercial space, which will include a shopping mall, two hotels, and other facilities, will make it one of the largest shopping complexes in Taiwan.
According to Commercial Times, the Taichung Dome’s management, operations, and design will be handled through a joint venture between CTBC Financial and Japan’s Nippon Ham Group, the parent company of the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters in NPB.
The article also named developer Kuoyang Group as another collaborator in the joint venture. Kuoyang Group has previously worked closely with CTBC Group on several land development projects and has a range of department stores, hotels, and restaurants under its corporate umbrella.
In recent years, there were reports indicated that CTBC Financial owner Jeffrey Koo Jr. was very interested in purchasing the Taipei Dome from the Farglory Group. However, the two parties were unable to agree on a price, which may have ultimately led Koo Jr. to pursue building a new dome stadium instead.
Below is the concept rendering of the Taichung Dome. As always, this is only the rendering, not the final design. I will continue to update this blog post as the story develops, or if I come across any new pictures of the Taichung Dome.

CPBL attendance seems to be good so far this season. New stadiums should help.
