CPBL Foreign Players Updates Volume #350
CTBC Brothers News: Shawn Morimando
On August 31, the last day of the CPBL trade deadline, the CTBC Brothers announced the release of Shawn Morimando.
The 31-year-old American left-hander spent most of the 2024 season in the CPBL minor league on a rehabilitation assignment after undergoing Tommy John surgery in May 2023. In six minor league appearances, he logged a total of 17 innings with a 3.71 ERA.
On August 30, the Brothers called up Shawn Morimando to the first team, where he faced the Fubon Guardians. Morimando allowed one run on six hits with three strikeouts and two walks over four innings of work. Less than 24 hours after the game, the Brothers decided to release him.
Shawn Morimando finished his brief 2024 CPBL season with a 2.25 ERA and a 2.00 WHIP over four innings with the first team.
“It’s been a long year, so be on the mound again, it means a lot,” said Shawn Morimando, who made his return to the CPBL first team more than 500 days after his Tommy John surgery. “I am very thankful to the Brothers players, coaches, training staff for being so supportive throughout the rehab.”
“I give Shawn Morimando a perfect score for his performance today, it is never an easy road to come back from an elbow surgery, I am truly happy for him,” said the Brothers manager after the game.
With the release of Shawn Morimando, the CTBC Brothers now have José De Paula, Kirk McCarty, Daniel Mengden, and Angel Sánchez as their foreign players for the 2024 CPBL season.
