2024 Taiwan Series G4: Brothers 6 – Uni-Lions 4
On October 23, the CTBC Brothers took Game 4 of the 2024 Taiwan Series, thanks to a clutch solo home run by Chen Tzu-Hao. With the win, the Brothers are now just one victory away from claiming the Taiwan Series Championship, holding a 3-1 series lead.
Game 4 Recap
The CTBC Brothers ignited Game 4 with a two-out rally in the bottom of the first inning. Chen Chun-Hsiu ripped a double off the left-field wall and scored the game’s first run on Chen Tzu-Hao’s perfectly placed bloop single. Wang Wei-Chen followed with a line-drive single to move Chen Chun-Hsiu into scoring position. Then, Tseng Song-En, now dubbed the “King of Taipei Dome,” lived up to his name, driving in an RBI single to extend the lead to 2-0.
As always, the Uni-Lions showed their resilience, fighting back in the bottom of the first inning with five base hits. With a runner on first and one out, Chen Chieh-Hsien sparked the Uni-Lions’ offence with an RBI double to the warning track. Despite the next batter striking out, Lin An-Ko, who has been dealing with a minor foot injury this series, lined an RBI single to tie the game at 2-2. Catcher Lin Dai-An then drove in the go-ahead run with a line-drive single, giving the Uni-Lions a 3-2 lead.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Brothers levelled the score at 3-3 with Yueh Tung-Hua’s RBI single. The Brothers were set for a big inning, but Uni-Lions’ starter Kuo Chun-Lin settled down and escaped a bases-loaded jam with a groundout. Kuo finished his outing with four innings pitched, allowing three runs on seven hits and striking out four on 77 pitches.
The Brothers kept the pressure on, retaking the lead at 4-3 in the top of the fifth inning with a solo home run by Chen Tzu-Hao. In the top of the sixth inning, they extended the lead to 6-3 with Yueh Cheng-Hua’s clutch 2-RBI single.
“I just try to hit the ball as hard as I can into the air,” said Chen Tzu-Hao in the postgame interview, talking about his go-ahead home run. “I’m just happy that I’m contributing to the team today.”

In the bottom of the sixth, the Uni-Lions managed to cut the deficit to 6-4. Lin Dai-An reached second base due to a fielding error, advanced to third on Chen Sheng-Ping’s flyout to centre, and scored on Lin Tzu-Chieh’s single up the middle. The Brothers then pulled their starter, Cheng Kai-Wen, and turned to their bullpen. Reliever Wu Chun-Wei entered the game and efficiently recorded two outs in just five pitches to end the inning.
“After watching Lu Yen-Ching successfully defuse the bases-loaded threat in Game 3, it motivated me to do the same for our team in high-leverage situations,” said Wu Chun-Wei to Liberty Sports after the game.
The Brothers’ starter Cheng Kai-Wen’s outing lasted 5.1 innings, during which he allowed four runs on ten hits while striking out two. The Brothers’ bullpen, Wu Chun-Wei, Lee Chen-Chang, and Lu Yen-Ching, combined to pitch 3.2 scoreless innings, securing the Brothers’ 6-4 victory in Game 4.
