Further Readings:
Very interesting post. I like the way it has been broken down, because it is interesting (to me at least) to see how the contracts are broken down and the different strategies teams and players take in terms of how the player will be compensated.
Where do the drafted players over the age of 23 come from? Taiwanese industrial leagues? I’ve noticed that some CPBL stars don’t start their CPBL careers until they fairly old, and assumed that they were probably coming out of industrial leagues, like some Japanese NPB players do.
So like you suggested. There are different strategy for each team. For Guardians & Lions their game plan is to get as many CPBL ready players as possible. While Monkeys and Brothers are going for the high school prospects, as both organisation can afford to spend time to develop them.
For drafted players over the age of 23? They mostly come out of University / Industrial league or returning from MLB minor league system.
The reason CPBL players started a bit late is, the mandatory military service in Taiwan. It used to be 2 years back in my time. But these day it’s a lot more loose, only 10 months I think. So, we started to see a trend of more and more high school players participated in the CPBL draft.
