CPBL Foreign Players Updates Volume #369
Wei Chuan Dragons News: Zac Lowther
On January 16, ETtoday reported that the Wei Chuan Dragons have signed 28-year-old American left-hander Zac Lowther for the 2025 CPBL season.
Zac Lowther began his professional career in 2017 when he was selected by the Baltimore Orioles as their second-round pick. After several years of seasoning in the minor leagues, he made his MLB debut in 2021. During the 2021 to 2022 seasons, Lowther appeared in 11 MLB games, compiling a 6.94 ERA and a 1.68 WHIP over 35 innings.
Unfortunately, due to a shoulder injury, Zac Lowther missed most of the 2023 season and was released by the Orioles midseason.
At the beginning of the 2024 season, Zac Lowther returned to professional baseball and signed with the Gastonia Baseball Club of the Atlantic League. In 11 games, he recorded a 2.82 ERA and 1.36 WHIP with 74 strikeouts over 54.1 innings.
Due to his performance in the Atlantic League, Zac Lowther’s contract was purchased by the Toros de Tijuana of the Mexican League in July. He appeared in 5 LMB games and posted a dominating 2.19 ERA and 0.97 WHIP with 40 strikeouts across 24.2 innings.
Leading up to Zac Lowther’s signing with the Wei Chuan Dragons, he was active in the Dominican Winter League, pitching for the Estrellas Orientales. In 25.1 innings, he struck out 31 and recorded a 3.55 ERA and 1.26 WHIP.
Based on information from Baseball Savant from 2021, Zac Lowther throws a 4-seam fastball that sits at 91 mph, with a changeup, curveball, and slider.
With the signing of Zac Lowther, the Wei Chuan Dragons now have Drew Gagnon (2-year deal), Bryan Woodall (domestic status), Jasier Herrera and Tyler Eppler as their foreign players.
