Wei Chuan Dragons News: Manny Barreda

On August 26, the Wei Chuan Dragons announced the signing of Manny Barreda. According to the team, the 36-year-old American right-hander has already arrived in Taiwan and reported to the team.

“Unless Manny Barreda’s condition is not 100% or there are other concerns, we will likely keep him as one of our final four foreign players after the August 31 trade deadline,” said the Dragons’ manager to ETtoday.

Manny Barreda began his professional career in 2007 with the New York Yankees organisation and briefly appeared in the MLB in 2021 as a member of the Baltimore Orioles. During his short stint in the big leagues, he made three appearances, compiling a 13.50 ERA over 2.2 innings of work.

After leaving the MLB system, Manny Barreda remained active in both the Mexican League (LMB) and the Mexican Winter League (LMP) from 2022 to 2025.

Before signing with the Wei Chuan Dragons in 2025, Manny Barreda had been pitching in the LMB for the Saraperos de Saltillo, where he posted a 6.22 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP over 98.1 innings. Notably, his innings pitched in the 2025 LMB season ranked as the third highest in the league.

With the signing of Manny Barreda, the Wei Chuan Dragons now have Drew Gagnon (two-year deal), Bryan Woodall (domestic status), Jasier Herrera, Tyler Eppler, Zac Lowther, and Aaron Leasher as their current group of foreign players.

Further Readings

Foreign players come and go. Therefore, we have compiled a foreign player tracker, and I’ll be updating that list regularly to keep pace with the ever-changing roster shuffle throughout the 2025 CPBL season.

  1. Manny Barreda has had more success so far in the role the Dragons are using him (three relief appearances, nine IP) than I expected. Barreda’s other numbers suggest the league’s going to catch up with him soon enough.
