Wei Chuan Dragons News: Conner Greene

On June 6, the Wei Chuan Dragons submitted a new hiring application to Taiwan’s Ministry of Labour. Shortly after, broadcaster Wang Yi-Hsuan revealed on his social media that the yet-to-be-named signing is a right-handed pitcher with MLB experience who spent the 2024 season in Triple-A.

TSNA later identified the mystery foreign pitcher as 30-year-old American right-hander Conner Greene. When asked by the media, the Dragons’ general manager declined to comment on the rumour.

On June 10, a PTT (Taiwanese Reddit) user shared screenshots from Conner Greene’s social media, showing that he is indeed in Taiwan. Once again, when asked by the media, the Dragons neither confirmed nor denied the signing.

On June 19, more than a week after Conner Greene’s arrival in Taiwan, the Wei Chuan Dragons finally passively confirmed the signing by registering Conner Greene under a tryout contract on the CPBL transaction page. Although the team has yet to make an official announcement, the manager has acknowledged that Conner Greene has reported to the team.

Note: As the Dragons have not made a formal announcement, it remains unclear whether Conner Greene has officially signed with the team or is only here for a tryout. However, for the sake of clarity, the term “signed” will be used, as Conner Greene has been registered under a tryout contract.

Conner Greene began his professional career in 2013 in the Toronto Blue Jays system and made his MLB debut in 2021, pitching for the Orioles and the Dodgers. In the majors, Conner Greene posted a 7.11 ERA and 1.73 WHIP over 25.1 innings.

Between 2022 and 2024, Conner Greene spent time in Triple-A, the Mexican League, and the Mexican Winter League. His most recent affiliated season was in 2024 with the Astros’ Triple-A team, where he pitched 57.2 innings, recording a 4.68 ERA, 1.51 WHIP, 59 strikeouts, and 32 walks.

With the signing of Conner Greene, the Wei Chuan Dragons now have Drew Gagnon (two-year deal), Bryan Woodall (domestic status), Jasier Herrera, Tyler Eppler, Zac Lowther, and Aaron Leasher (fractured pinky) as their current group of foreign players.

Further Readings

Foreign players come and go. Therefore, we have compiled a foreign player tracker, and I’ll be updating that list regularly to keep pace with the ever-changing roster shuffle throughout the 2025 CPBL season.
