CPBL Team Interested in Austin Bibens-Dirkx

Here’s something interesting I came across while reading The Athletic the other day. Apparently, a CPBL team had offered a contract to the Texas Rangers’ RHP Austin Bibens-Dirkx for the 2018 CPBL season.

The article was from February 17, where Bibens-Dirkx was quoted “have a pretty good offer to play in Taiwan, but no real offer to play in Japan or Korea.”

In 2017, Austin Bibens-Dirkx posted a 4.67 ERA and 1.35 WHIP over 24 games, 69.1 innings with the Texas Rangers in the MLB.

While it is not rare to see CPBL teams signing players with the MLB experience, however, it is unusual to see players who were still on the MLB roster the previous season. Off the top of my head, I can think of the following players.

  • Jose Castillo: Uni-Lions 2009
  • Freddy Garcia: EDA Rhinos 2014
  • Jose Parra: Uni-Lions 2001, 2003
