Uni-Lions News: Félix Peña

On February 2, the Uni-Lions announced the signing of 35-year-old Dominican right-hander Félix Peña for the 2025 CPBL season. According to the Uni-Lions’ general manager, they finalised the deal with Peña last week and will continue searching for more suitable foreign pitchers.

Félix Peña began his professional career in the Chicago Cubs system in 2009 and made his MLB debut in 2016. Over the next six seasons (2016-2021), he appeared in 104 games, posting a 4.66 ERA and a 1.28 WHIP over 260.2 innings while pitching for the Cubs and the Angels.

In 2022, after leaving the MLB system, Félix Peña signed with the Hanwha Eagles of the KBO as a mid-season replacement. He finished the 2022 KBO season with 13 starts, recording a 3.72 ERA over 67.2 innings.

The following year, Félix Peña returned to the Eagles and established himself as the team’s ace. During the 2023 season, he started 32 games and compiled a 3.60 ERA and a 1.17 WHIP across 177.1 innings.

In 2024, perhaps due to overuse or maybe it was simply age catching up to him, Félix Peña’s performance declined dramatically, ultimately leading to his mid-season release by the Eagles. He finished the 2024 KBO season with a disappointing 6.27 ERA over 37.1 innings.

After leaving the KBO system, Peña took a few months off before returning to the mound for Toros del Este in the Dominican Winter League (LIDOM). However, his numbers were far from ideal, as he recorded a 6.91 ERA and a 1.81 WHIP over 14.1 innings.

With the signing of Félix Peña, the Uni-Lions now have Yohander Méndez and C.C. Mercedes and Brock Dykxhoorn as their foreign players.

Further Readings

Foreign players come and go. Therefore, we have compiled a foreign player tracker, and I’ll be updating that list regularly to keep pace with the ever-changing roster shuffle throughout the 2025 CPBL season.
