TSG Hawks News: Dinelson Lamet

On August 5, broadcaster Wang Yi-Hsuan reported that the TSG Hawks have signed 33-year-old Dominican right-hander Dinelson Lamet.

According to TSNA, Dinelson Lamet was originally on the Uni-Lions’ target list, but the Hawks swooped in and secured the deal at the last moment. Liberty Sports further reported that the Hawks had initially aimed to re-sign Nick Margevicius, who played for them in 2024. Both sides had reached a preliminary understanding, but the Detroit Tigers organisation ultimately refused to release his contract.

Dinelson Lamet pitched in MLB from 2017 to 2024, appearing in 121 games (60 starts) for the Padres, Rockies, Red Sox, and Dodgers. Over seven seasons, he posted a 4.63 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, and 474 strikeouts across 367.2 innings.

His standout year came in 2020, when he recorded a 2.09 ERA, 0.855 WHIP over 69 innings and finished fourth in Cy Young Award voting. However, he was unable to replicate that success in the following seasons. Rising ERA and walk rates eventually led to his move from the starting rotation to a bullpen role.

After the 2024 season, Dinelson Lamet left the MLB system to join the Águilas Cibaeñas in the Dominican Winter League. In 2025, before signing with the Hawks, he played in the Mexican League, where he posted a 5.01 ERA and 1.34 WHIP over 88 innings, better than the league-average ERA of 5.83.

With the signing of Dinelson Lamet, the TSG Hawks now have Spenser Watkins, Onodera Kento, Yoshida Kazumasa, Steven Moya, Bradin Hagens, Eric Stout and Sakurai Shuto as their foreign players.

Foreign players come and go. Therefore, we have compiled a foreign player tracker, and I’ll be updating that list regularly to keep pace with the ever-changing roster shuffle throughout the 2025 CPBL season.

  1. Lamet looks like a good pitcher for the Hawks to give a look. The Tigers’ decision to hold onto Margevicius’ contract kind of stinks, since the Tigers haven’t promoted him to the majors despite his pitching well at AAA.

    • Yeah, it’s a shame Margevicius is not coming back. Him and Moya are very popular with the Hawks fans. I guessing the Hawks will try to recruit him again for 2026 season. Oh, unrelated notes, apparently the Kiwoom Heroes paid 80,000 USD as buyout fee for C.C. Mercedes’ contract with the Uni-Lions.
