New Landlord for Chengcing Lake Stadium: CTBC Financial
On April 1, Kaohsiung City announced that Taiwan Life, a subsidiary of CTBC Financial, which also owns the CTBC Brothers baseball team, has secured a 10-year operating right for Chengcing Lake Baseball Stadium, along with a 12.43-hectare land development project surrounding the stadium.
The investment, known as the “Chengcing Lake Sports, Health and Leisure Park”, is set to exceed USD 600 million. The project will include multiple residential and commercial buildings, aiming to create a multi-functional complex that integrates sports facilities, retail spaces, hotels, and other lifestyle amenities.
According to preliminary plans, Taiwan Life intends to position the Chengcing Lake area as “Kaohsiung Manhattan – Grand Central Park”. This new lifestyle hub will also connect to the future Yellow Line of the Kaohsiung Metro (MRT), which is currently under construction.
Chengcing Lake Baseball Stadium currently serves as the home of the TSG Hawks under a short-term lease with the city government. With the stadium’s operating rights now transferred to Taiwan Life, local media have indicated that preliminary discussions between the Hawks and the new operator may have already taken place. Details regarding lease terms and future cooperation are expected to be announced at a later stage.

TSG Hawks Set Eyes on Kaohsiung Dome
Later that day, the TSG Hawks released a statement saying after further evaluation, they had decided not to pursue either the land development project or the operating rights for Chengcing Lake Baseball Stadium. The organisation’s long-term vision is now focused on the potential Kaohsiung Dome.
At present, there are no concrete plans for a dome stadium in Kaohsiung. However, Democratic Progressive Party legislator Lai Jui-Lung (賴瑞隆), who is expected to run for mayor at the end of 2026, has proposed building the Kaohsiung Dome near the downtown area.
Following the relocation of the 205th Arsenal, approximately 58 hectares of land in central Kaohsiung are now available for redevelopment. According to Lai Jui-Lung, this area is an ideal site for the proposed dome stadium, given its proximity to the city centre and its access to existing MRT and light rail lines.
According to UP Media, early discussions regarding the Kaohsiung Dome proposal have already taken place between the mayoral candidate and the TSG Hawks.
