Rakuten Monkeys News: Jonathan Bermúdez

On December 25, the Rakuten Monkeys announced the signing of Jonathan Bermúdez for the 2025 CPBL season. According to the team, the 29-year-old Puerto Rican left-hander is set to arrive in Taiwan around mid-February.

“he performed well during the 2024 MiLB season and in the recent WBSC Premier12 tournament. He would greatly help strengthen the team’s starting rotation,” said the Rakuten Monkeys via press release.

Jonathan Bermúdez began his professional career in the Houston Astros system back in 2018 and made his MLB debut in 2024 with the Miami Marlins. During his short stint in the big league, he compiled an 8.10 ERA over 6.2 innings.

Besides those two brief trips to the major league, Jonathan Bermúdez split most of his 2024 season in the minor leagues, pitching 101.1 innings. He posted a 2.53 ERA over 74.2 innings in Double-A and a 5.74 ERA across 26.2 innings in Triple-A.

At the end of the 2024 season, Jonathan Bermúdez elected free agency and wound up representing Puerto Rico in the 2024 WBSC Premier12 tournament. In two outings against the USA and Panama, he logged 8.1 innings with a 2.16 ERA and nine strikeouts.
