Fubon Guardians have announced the 25-year-old RHP 黃亦志 (Huang Yi-Chih) will start for the team on Opening Day. Huang will face the 2016 Taiwan Series runner-up Chinatrust Brothers in Xinzhuang baseball stadium on the 25th March.
Why Huang Yi-Chih over Mike Loree & Scott Richmond?
黃亦志 (Huang Yi-Chih) was drafted in the 3rd round back in 2015. Despite the not so impressive regular season stats in 2016 (7.00 ERA, 1.78 WHIP over 45 IP). Huang did went 5 innings with 1 earned run in Game 4 of the Taiwan Series in 2016.
The 2016 CPBL triple crown winner Mike Loree was scheduled to be the Opening Day starter. However, Loree has been sidelined with abdominal muscle strains during the last week of spring training and is expect to miss 2 starts.
The Guardians manager 葉君璋 (Yeh Chun-Chang) has told the media that Chris Seddon is still not quite in game condition yet, and with Scott Richmond recently returned from the WBC tournament he would like to give Richmond a few more days of rest.
