Fubon Guardians News: Roenis Elías

On December 31, the Fubon Guardians announced the signing of Roenis Elías for the 2025 CPBL season. As per TSNA, the 36-year-old Cuban left-hander is on a guaranteed contract worth 500,000 USD.

Roenis Elías spent the first two years of his professional career in Cuba before defecting to Mexico in 2010. He ended up signing a minor league deal with the Seatle Mariners in 2021 and entered the MLB system.

In just a few years, Roenis Elías quickly climbed up the minor league ladders and made his MLB debut in 2014. During his seven MLB seasons (2014-19, 2022), he played for the Mariners, Red Sox and Nationals, where he compiled a career 3.96 ERA and 1.31 WHIP across 133 games, 395.2 innings.

Between 2023 and 2024, Roenis Elías was active in Korea, playing for the SSG Landers. In over 44 games, he logged 255 innings and posted a 3.88 ERA and 1.29 WHIP. At the end of the 2024 season, the Landers decided not to renew his contract for 2025.

Leading up to the signing with the Fubon Guardians, Roenis Elías was active in the Mexican Winter League. He compiled a 2.45 ERA and 1.04 WHIP over 22 innings for the Sultanes de Monterrey.
