CPBL Foreign Players Updates Volume #178
Fubon Guardians News: Manny Bañuelos
On July 5, the Fubon Guardians released Manny Bañuelos so he would be able to represent Mexico in the upcoming Tokyo Olympics.
“Although the Guardians need Bañuelos, we still give him our blessing and hope he can do well in the Olympics,” said Hong I-Chung, the Guardians manager.
“It is a tough decision for me to leave the Guardians,” said Manny Bañuelos. “I thank the team for providing me with the opportunities to play in the CPBL in the past two seasons.”
Manny Bañuelos finished his 2021 CPBL season with a solid 2.94 ERA and 1.33 WHIP over 49 innings.

Guardians Eyeing New Player? Manny Bañuelos Eyeing KBO / NPB Contract?
According to the Guardians, they will continue to monitor other potential foreign player candidates overseas.
With Manny Bañuelos departing, the Fubon Guardians are left with Mike Loree, JC Ramírez, Adalberto Mejía, Eduardo Núñez and Yomar Concepcion as their foreign players.
Like the Uni-Lions Teddy Stankiewicz, who also left CPBL to play for Mexico, Manny Bañuelos will now have a chance to showcase himself to the NPB and KBO teams in the Olympics.
Further Readings
Foreign players come and goes, therefore we compiled a foreign players tracker to keep track of all the foreign players signing for the 2021 CPBL season.
How many more players do you think will be released to represent their countries at the Olympics?
I think that’s about it. I doubt the Brothers will let go of Jose De Paula. Because he supposedly on a full season contract with the team.
For Manny Bañuelos and Teddy Stankiewicz, they are probably on a half season contract, that’s why the team can’t stop them from leaving.
