Fubon Guardians News: Luis Liberato
On May 5, the Fubon Guardians released Luis Liberato. According to the team, the 30-year-old Dominican outfielder asked for an early release from his contract, which the team granted. Despite started the season strong, Luis Liberato finished the 2026 CPBL season slashing .229/.280/.271 (72 OPS+) over 19 games and 75 plate appearances.
While the basic numbers look below league average, but it’s worth noting that Luis Liberato posted a fairly solid HardHit% (36.7%), Barrel% (7%), and Average Exit Velocity (140.8kph). Those hitting metrics would place him in the 80th to 90th percentile in the 2026 CPBL season.
Perhaps if the Guardians had continued to give Luis Liberato more on-field opportunities, his numbers might have picked up. But then again, as we have seen over the years, given the CPBL’s foreign player signing structure, it’s not easy to be a foreign hitter in Taiwan. Teams tend to have very little patience and often expect immediate, top-tier production, especially in terms of power.
With the release of Luis Liberato, the Fubon Guardians currently have Suzuki Shunsuke, Shawn Morimando, Aaron Wilkerson, Erick Leal and Abe Yudai (development player) as their group of foreign players for the 2026 season.

Further Readings
Foreign players come and go. Therefore, we have compiled a foreign player tracker, and I’ll be updating that list regularly to keep pace with the ever-changing roster shuffle throughout the 2026 CPBL season.

Sorry to see Liberato not get more of a chance, but I agree with your analysis that foreign starting pitching is too value to wait long for foreign position players to hit.
