CPBL Foreign Players Updates Volume #407
Wei Chuan Dragons News: Bryan Woodall
On December 10, GO Baseball reported that the Wei Chuan Dragons have re-signed Bryan Woodall to a two-year deal for the 2026 and 2027 CPBL seasons. The 39-year-old American right-hander will return for his 12th season in Taiwan.
Having accumulated more than 9 years of service time in the CPBL, Bryan Woodall has earned the domestic player status and will not take up a foreign player slot. There were rumours circulating back in November that several CPBL teams were interested in signing him for 2026, but in the end, the Dragons came out on top and secured Woodall’s service for another two years.

The 2025 season was business as usual for “Mr Reliable / Sexy Uncle” Bryan Woodall. As always, the veteran delivered yet another consistent and steady performance. His approach remained the same: pound the strike zone, challenge hitters, induce weak contact, stay efficient with his pitch count, and work deep into games.
Across 19 appearances, Bryan Woodall posted a solid 2.36 ERA and 1.26 WHIP over 106.2 innings for the Dragons, along with a 1.46 WAR and a 145 ERA+.
Despite his age, Bryan Woodall has repeatedly earned public praise from the Dragons’ manager for his intelligence, consistency, and reliability on the mound. In my personal opinion, as long as he can continue giving a team around 80 solid innings each season, there will always be a place for him in the CPBL.

How Bryan Woodall Got His “Sexy Uncle” Nickname
Here’s a fun origin story of Bryan Woodall’s nickname “Sexy Uncle”. It came straight out of classic PTT baseball message board culture. Whenever a pitcher is on fire in a game, (for example, carrying a no-hitter), rival fans will often intentionally praise the pitcher calling their performance “smooth and satisfying,” hoping to jinx the hot streak.
Back in 2017, instead of using the usual “smooth and satisfying” phrasing, one fan jokingly described Bryan Woodall’s performance as “sexy.” As as expected, the term stuck immediately, and eventually, Taiwanese netizens began calling him “Sexy Uncle.”
