Wei Chuan Dragons News: Jake Brigham

On May 8, the Wei Chuan Dragons’ general manager told the media that Jake Brigham had undergone surgery to repair a hairline fracture in his left foot. According to the team, Jake Brigham is expected to be sidelined for at least 6-8 weeks and will likely miss the rest of the 2023 first-half season.

Brigham, the 35-year-old American right-hander, sustained the foot injury on May 5 when he exited the game while warming up before the third inning.

Initially, the Dragons reported it as a sprained ankle, but further medical examination revealed it was a hairline fracture near his left toe.

“His foot bumped into something in the dugout,” said the Dragons manager. “Yes, we signed him to a full-season deal, but what has happened has happened. We can do nothing about it and will review the situation after his surgery.”

Wei Chuan Dragons general manager told TSNA that Jake Brigham would remain in Taiwan for treatment and rehabilitation at this stage. As for whether Brigham will return to the United States early and whether his contract will be extended or terminated early? The Dragons GM revealed they would discuss with Jake Brigham after he leaves the hospital.

“We have begun searching for a new foreign player, we are currently targeting a few potential candidates,” said the Dragons general manager.

As of May 8, Jake Brigham compiled a solid 2.38 ERA and 1.24 WHIP over 34 innings in the 2023 CPBL season.

Wei Chuan Dragons News: Tim Melville

With Jake Brigham being sidelined with a foot injury, the Dragons have decided to call up Tim Melville to the first team this week. However, the timing is not on the Dragons’ side because Melville will soon go on a one-week paternity leave around May 20 to be with his wife in the USA.

Tim Melville joined the Dragons earlier this year as the fourth backup pitcher. So far, he posted a 1.67 ERA and 1.00 WHIP over 27 innings in the CPBL minor league.
