CTBC Brothers News: Kirk McCarty

On January 10, sports agency BHSC announced that the CTBC Brothers have re-signed Kirk McCarty for the 2025 CPBL season. The 29-year-old American left-hander will return to Taiwan for his second season in the league.

McCarty began his 2024 CPBL season on the injured list due to an inflamed elbow, which sidelined him for approximately two months. After a series of rehab games in the minor leagues, he eventually returned to the first-team roster and made his CPBL debut against the Monkeys on June 4. In that game, he pitched seven scoreless innings with four strikeouts, earning his first career win in CPBL.

For the remainder of the 2024 season, McCarty started 13 games for the Brothers, posting a solid 2.76 ERA, a 1.19 WHIP, a slightly above-average 18.5% strikeout rate, and a decent 5.1% walk rate over 81.2 innings. During the 2024 postseason, he played a pivotal role in Game 3 of the Taiwan Series, delivering 5.1 scoreless innings to keep the opponents at bay.

With the signing of Kirk McCarty, the Brothers have secured their first foreign player for the 2025 season. According to the team’s general manager, they plan to sign five foreign pitchers before Opening Day. Speculation suggests the team is likely in talks with José De Paula (2020-24), Daniel Mengden (2024), and Humberto Castellanos (new).
