CTBC Brothers News: Félix Peña

On April 22, broadcaster Wang Yi-Hsuan revealed on social media that the CTBC Brothers had reached a preliminary agreement with 36-year-old Dominican right-hander Félix Peña for the 2026 CPBL season, pending a physical. Later that afternoon, the Brothers officially announced the signing, adding that Peña had already arrived in Taiwan and was undergoing his medical.

“Since Félix Peña played in the CPBL last year, he should be quite familiar with the hitters here. We believe he can adjust quickly and become a key piece in our rotation,” the team said in a press release.

“Signing Félix Peña wasn’t part of our original plan. However, our other foreign players haven’t been performing well in the minor leagues, so after reviewing the situation, we decided to approach him,” the Brothers’ manager told Liberty Sports.

Félix Peña made 21 starts for the Uni-Lions in the 2025 season. Across 127.1 innings, he posted an outstanding 1.91 ERA and 1.06 WHIP, with an 18.8 K% and 6.5 BB%. Despite being widely regarded as the Uni-Lions’ ace that year, he did not receive a contract renewal for 2026 after both sides failed to reach an agreement during the offseason.

According to GO Baseball on February 12, the Uni-Lions and Félix Peña held multiple talks during the offseason but couldn’t agree on the final terms. Other CPBL teams also made enquiries privately, but ultimately held off due to the league’s tampering regulations (the 228 Clause).

Broadcaster Wang Yi-Hsuan later reported on February 16 that the Uni-Lions initially offered Félix Peña a two-stage deal for 2026, which he turned down. The team then came back with a full-season offer worth under USD 400,000, but the two sides still couldn’t reach a deal.

Prior to the signing with the CTBC Brothers, Félix Peña was supposed to play for the Leones de Yucatán in the Mexican League for the 2026 LMB season.

With the signing of Félix Peña the CTBC Brothers currently have Mario Sanchez (2-year deal), José De Paula, Nivaldo Rodriguez, Kyle Tyler, Nick Nelson and Angel Macuare as their group of foreign players for the 2026 season.
