Cheerleader Attacked During Private Event
On June 20, CTBC Brothers cheerleader Wang Ching-Wen, better known as Wen Wen, was attacked by a knife-wielding fan during a private photoshoot event. She suffered a neck wound measuring approximately 5 cm by 4 cm and was rushed to the hospital. Following successful surgery, Wen Wen is reportedly in stable condition and will remain hospitalised for further observation and treatment.
According to reports, the attacker had posed as one of the photographers attending the private group photoshoot. When it was his turn to take photos, he suddenly pulled out a knife and began attacking Wen Wen. He was eventually disarmed and subdued by other people at the studio. During the struggle, three photographers sustained minor cuts to their arms and legs.
Several local media outlets identified the attacker as a man in his 50s who had been a longtime fan of Wen Wen. He was frequently seen at CTBC Brothers’ home games, filming her on his phone. The suspect is said to have a history of larceny and had previously harassed news anchors and other social media influencers. There has also been speculation that the attack may have been triggered after Wen Wen blocked him on social media due to his alleged stalking behaviour.
The attacker has since been arrested and was later transferred to prosecutors on charges of assault and attempted murder.
