Chinatrust Brothers have signed former Lamigo Monkeys LHP 洪宸宇 (Hung Chen-Yu) to an entry level contract after inviting him to their 2017 spring camp.
Hung was originally drafted by Lamigo Monkeys in the 2nd round of the 2011 CPBL draft. He started off his career as 1st baseman however is unable to handle the top team pitching with a disappointing record of .179/.237/.226 over 2 seasons.
In 2015, in order to extend his professional career Hung was converted into a pitcher. Hung spent majority of 2015 & 2016 season in the farm team with 3.82 ERA, 1.56 WHIP over 66 innings with his fastball topping at 148kph (92mph). Hung was eventually released by the Lamigo Monkeys after the 2016 season.
After being released by Lamigo Monkeys. Hung participated in the CPBL open tryout in December 2016 facing 5 batters with 2K, 1BB and fastball clocking at 142kph (88mph). After the tryout Hung received an invitation invited to Chinatrust Brothers spring camp in 2017.
Will Hung Chen-Yu able help out the struggling Chinatrust Brothers bullpen in 2017 season? Or Lamigo Monkeys made the wrong choice letting go a potential left-handed RP that just need a little more time to develop?
