Chinatrust Brothers News: Brett Oberholtzer

On July 23, rumours began circulating that Brett Oberholtzer might be heading to Taiwan’s CPBL. At that time, many speculated he is going to sign with the Uni-Lions.

Fast forward a few days later, on July 27, the Chinatrust Brothers have officially announced the signing of 30-year-old left-hander Brett Oberholtzer from the Atlantic League.

According to the Brothers’ press release, Oberholtzer is expected to arrive in Taiwan on July 29 and will report to the Brothers’ farm team after physical examinations.

Brett Oberholtzer was active in the MLB from 2013 to 2016 pitching for the Astros, Phillies and Angels. He posted a combined record of 4.36 ERA, 1.39 WHIP across 82 games and 324 innings. He left the MLB system at the end of 2018 season.

In 2019, Oberholtzer signed with the Somerset Patriots of the Atlantic League. Before signing with the Brothers, Oberholtzer posted a 3.49 ERA, 1.33 WHIP across 14 starts and 77.1 innings.

  1. Oberholtzer seems like a good signing — he has MLB major league experience, he was pitching well in the Atlantic League, and he only just turned 30. We’ll see how he does, and who he replaces.

Is Wang Po-Jung hurt? He hasn’t played in a while, but I can’t find out why.

    • At this stage, could be either Elih Villanueva or Casey Harman. But the Brothers will have until August 31 to make that call. Also, turns out the Brothers snatched Brett Oberholtzer from the Uni-Lions.

Yeah, Wang Po-Jung is on injury list for 4 weeks. Shoulder contusion on a diving catch. I think he started batting practice the other day, will be back to the lineup soon.
