2025 Taiwan Series G4: Monkeys 3 – Brothers 1

After 5 straight days of heavy rain delays, the 2025 Taiwan Series finally resumed on October 26 in Taoyuan.

The Rakuten Monkeys made the wait worthwhile for their home crowd, defeating the CTBC Brothers 3-1 in Game 4 behind a late-game home run from Chen Chen-Wei. With the win, the Monkeys took a commanding 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven series.

Game 4 Recap

Both teams looked refreshed after the unexpected mid-series break, and it showed in the early innings. Starters Pedro Fernández for the Monkeys and Nivaldo Rodríguez for the Brothers traded zeroes, keeping hitters off balance with sharp command and efficient pitching.

The Monkeys finally broke through in the bottom of the third. Sung Jia-Xiang led off with a single, and Cheng Chin followed with a comebacker that deflected off Nivaldo Rodríguez’s arm. With two on and no outs, Yu Te-Lung laid down a bunt that turned into a costly play for the Brothers. The throw to third sailed wide and rolled into left field, allowing the Monkeys to score the first run of the game and take a 1-0 lead.

The Brothers answered quickly in the top of the fourth. Power hitter Hsu Chi-Hung punished a hanging slider, launching it deep over the right-field wall to tie the game 1-1.

In the sixth, the Brothers had their best chance to take the lead. Wang Cheng-Shun reached on base on a throwing error after his broken bat hit Pedro Fernández. Hsu Chi-Hung kept the momentum going with a single down the line. With runners at the corners and no outs, Pedro Fernández stared down on the pressure, striking out 3 straight batters to escape the jam unscathed.

Both aces continued to duel into the late innings. Pedro Fernández was electric once again, tossing 6 innings of 1-run ball with 10 strikeouts on the night. Nivaldo Rodríguez matched him well, going 7 innings himself while striking out 7 and allowing 2 runs.

Both teams were unable to break the deadlock and the score was kept at 1-1. Then came the bottom of the eighth. The Monkeys’ Chen Chen-Wei stepped up and delivered the decisive blow, a towering two-run home run that sent all the Monkeys fans in the sold-out Taoyuan stadium into a frenzy. The Monkeys ultimately rode that momentum to the finish line, holding off the Brothers 3-1 and got into a very favourable position in the series where they just need one more win to capture the 2025 Taiwan Series championship.
