First Time in CPBL: 4 Straight Walks, No Run
Wei Chuan Dragons: “Can we score?”
Baseball God: “No, not this inning.”
Baseball has a funny way of humbling even the best-laid plans. No matter how perfectly everything seems to align, the game and the universe always have the final say.
On April 3, 2025, during a game between the Wei Chuan Dragons and the TSG Hawks, the Dragons drew four consecutive walks in a single inning but still failed to score. It was a bizarre and historic moment for the CPBL, marking the first time in the league’s 36-year history that such an event had occurred.
It happened in the bottom of the sixth inning. Hawks pitcher Wang Po-Chieh started off strong, efficiently retiring Giljegiljaw Kungkuan with a groundout to third base for the first out. But then, everything unravelled.
Wang suddenly lost his command, walking Chen Tzu-Hao. However, he momentarily regained control, executing a pickoff to record the second out and seemingly limiting the damage. Just when it looked like he might escape unscathed, he proceeded to walk the next three batters, loading the bases and putting the Dragons in prime position to break the game open.
Sensing trouble, the Hawks turned to reliever Shih Tzu-Chien, who promptly induced a ground ball from Li Kai-Wei. In a cruel twist of fate, the ball struck the advancing baserunner, leading to a runner interference call and ending the inning in the most strange fashion.
Despite issuing four consecutive walks, the Hawks miraculously escaped the inning unscathed, proving once again that in baseball, sometimes all you need is a little bit of luck.
For the first time in CPBL history, the Wei Chuan Dragons drew 4 consecutive walks in a single inning but still failed to score a run.
