Teams Release Foreign Players Before 831 Deadline
Ah yes, the August 31 trade deadline, which also serves as the foreign players’ registration deadline. It is that time of year when fans have to say goodbye to a bunch of foreign players. In the lead-up to the 831 deadline, teams are forced to make tough roster decisions, cutting their total number of foreign players down to just four for the remainder of the season.
According to CPBL regulations, foreign players released before August 31 deadline are free to negotiate with any team for their next year’s contract. Those who remain under contract after August 31, their teams are able to retain their negotiation rights until January 15 of the following year.
Here is a brief rundown of all the foreign players who were let go before the deadline. Some are well-known veterans, others spent the entire season in the minor league never received a first team call-up, and a few never made it past development contract status.
CTBC Brothers News: Angel Macuare
On August 6, the CTBC Brothers announced the release of Angel Macuare. The 26-year-old Venezuelan right-hander spent the entire 2026 season in the CPBL minor league and did not make a single appearance for the 1st team. Angel Macuare finished his 2026 CPBL minor league season with a 4.50 ERA and 1.38 WHIP over 26 innings.
Fubon Guardians News: Aaron Wilkerson
This is perhaps one of the biggest disappointments of the 2026 CPBL season. On August 21, the Fubon Guardians announced the release of Aaron Wilkerson.
The 37-year-old American right-hander had an impressive baseball résumé, with extensive experience in MLB, NPB, and KBO. Unfortunately, Aaron Wilkerson was too inconsistent during his time in the CPBL and was also plagued by injuries. He finished his 2026 CPBL season with a 4.24 ERA and 1.41 WHIP over 34 innings.
CTBC Brothers News: Jack O’Loughlin
On August 31, the CTBC Brothers announced the release of Jack O’Loughlin. The 26-year-old Australian left-hander joined the CTBC Brothers at the end of July and spent his time with the Brothers’ farm team. However, after a few weeks of evaluation, the management decided to let him go ahead of the August 31 deadline. He finished his 2026 CPBL minor league season with a 4.09 ERA and 1.27 WHIP over 11 innings.
According to the team, the final roster spot came down to Félix Peña and Jack O’Loughlin. However, Félix Peña had pitched exceptionally well leading up to the deadline, which ultimately earned him the final spot beyond August 31.
CTBC Brothers News: Kyle Tyler
On August 31, the CTBC Brothers announced the release of Kyle Tyler. The 29-year-old American right-hander did not make a single appearance for the CPBL 1st team and remained in the farm league for the entire season. He finished his CPBL journey with a 6.00 ERA and 2.13 WHIP over 15 innings in the CPBL minor league.
Statistics aside, Kyle Tyler’s fate was decided quite early. In mid-August, the CTBC Brothers’ pitching coach revealed that Tyler had suffered a groin strain and would be let go on August 31.
Fubon Guardians News: Tyler Ivey
On August 31, the Fubon Guardians announced the release of Tyler Ivey. The 30-year-old American right-hander signed with the team on August 21 and made only 2 appearances in the CPBL minor league, compiling a perfect 0.00 ERA and 0.88 WHIP over 8 scoreless innings.
TSG Hawks News: Bradin Hagens
On August 31, the TSG Hawks announced the release of Bradin Hagens. After putting together an outstanding 2025 season, posting a 1.89 ERA and 1.14 WHIP over 152.1 innings, Bradin Hagens was unable to replicate the same success in 2026. He finished the year with a 4.74 ERA and 1.55 WHIP across 95 innings.
Despite his inconsistency this season, the 37-year-old American right-hander did manage to deliver a 7-scoreless-inning outing shortly before the August 31 deadline. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to convince the management, and the Hawks ultimately chose Wilmer Font over Bradin Hagens for the final spot on the active roster.
